"Imagination" and "Action"

This past week the president of a local mortgage company asked to meet with me. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss methods of motivating his salespeople to "think."

There didn't seem to be any problem getting them out of the office, nor did there seem to be any problem with production. He wanted however, to discuss different ways to help them to better use their imaginations. His recent problem was that he had requested his sales staff to supply him with an idea, just an idea on ways to help real estate salespeople increase their sales.

By increasing sales you'll get more business. By helping to increase real estate sales by being there and sitting down with your real estate salespeople to help them, you will automatically ingratiate yourself to them. So do it! This is one idea you shouldn't just think about. During the time you spend with your real estate sales people, think of various ways to increase their sales.

Just a few days after my discussion with the mortgage company president, he was required to make a trip to one of his branch offices; which required a plane ride. After he returned he called me to tell me that even before he could discuss our ideas with his sales staff, he was able to think of over sixty different ideas to help real estate people make an impact in the community.

This exercise proves at least two things. First of all, by using your imagination, there is literally no limit to what you are capable of doing or thinking. All too often we sell ourselves short when asked about own ability to "imagine." In fact, if you take just a half hour per day to clear your mind of the pressures and clouds that are going through, you will find you possess the amazing ability to "think" and to use your imagination. Napoleon Hill, the author of "Think and Grow Rich" writes that one of the basic principles we must use is our imagination. The power of your imagination is usually a hidden, undiscovered power. When you allow this hidden power to function you allow yourself to think of more ways to help yourself than you ever imagined.

If you expect to be successful, you must constantly be the helpmate of the business people you rely upon - in this example, the real estate salespeople. You then become their tool, one of the ways that helps them function or perform. Because of your support and ideas, they can work more effectively.

Become better at what you do. It's a simple assignment, with monumental rewards. The first few ideas may take a little effort, then you'll notice the ideas just start flowing! Be sure to write them down; a good idea should consist of at least 25 words. Do it, don't just think about it!
