Some lawmakers are suspending their townhall meetings, instead holding smaller sessions, telephone briefings and inviting constituents to one-on-one office visits. All of this means that the best method of relaying your concerns about the proposed Consumer Financial Protection Agency (CFPA) is through one-on-one meetings with Representatives or their staff in their district offices. Another novel way of expressing your concerns is to invite them to come to your office and sit in on a closing to see how the process works. Although you may feel a little intimidated by calling a Congressman and asking them to come to your office, you'll find that it never hurts to ask and that you are a fantastic resource to them about your local community's real estate market and economy. ALTA is ready to help you become comfortable with establishing a relationship with your Congressman so that they hear from the title industry that the proposed CFPA needs significant modification before it hits the President's desk.
